The Ashes Game One – Brisbane

The first Ashes game of the series concluded in Brisbane yesterday. The build up promised an evenly contested battle between Australia and the Old Enemy and it certainly delivered.  The game was a seesaw contest, back and forth, over the five days.  On the first day, Australia appeared to have the ascendancy on the back of a hattrick by Peter ...

Retired England cricketer Ian Botham turned up at Suncorp to show his support for the Brisbane Roar on Saturday. This week we had a local derby against the underwhelming North Queensland Fury.  It’s only the Fury’s second season in the A-League.  In their opening season they signed up God to play as their striker.  He worked out pretty well for ...

5 Second Review: Machete Maidens Unleashed

Machete Maidens Unleashed is a documentary about the boom period in the Filipino film industry during the Sixties and Seventies which, at its peak, was outputting something like 350 films a year.  Producers from the U.S were attracted to the market which was welcoming to Americans, had cheap labour and offered a ready-made exotic location. A-League Round 16 – Brisbane Roar vs Newcastle Jets

The Roar faced a tricky midweek roadtrip to EnergyAustralia Stadium to play a resurgent Newcastle Jets on a humid Wednesday night in New South Wales.  Although the Jets currently sit bottom the table, they have recently found their form and over the past weekend they made short work of Adelaide United, crushing them 3-0.  With former Arsenal striker Francis Jeffers ...
