Urbane<\/em> is probably one of the most creative and consistently excellent fine dining restaurants in Brisbane.\u00a0 Thanks to their reputations, other high profile chefs like Ryan Squires and Matt Moran draw greater attention at Esquire<\/em> and Aria<\/em> but Urbane<\/em> is the place to go for Brisbane’s most delicious and inventive degustation.\u00a0 It’s got the longevity, the loyal customer base and the plethora of foodie awards to prove it.<\/p>\n

This is my third visit to Urbane<\/em> in as many years.\u00a0 I first discovered the venue when I went for a work outing in 2011<\/a>.\u00a0 I went again on my 30th birthday<\/a> last year.\u00a0 And we went again this time for Jen’s birthday.<\/p>\n

Crispy duck tongue, dishes served in test tubes, snails, wasabi oysters and fruit infusions.\u00a0 It’s part of the weird and wonderful servings on offer from chef Alejandro Cancino who has cooked in Michelin star restaurants in London, Tokyo and Madrid.\u00a0 I resent him somewhat because despite his incredible array of accomplishments, he is only 29 years old.<\/p>\n

Cancino is clearly happy to keep tinkering and creating new dishes.\u00a0 Urbane<\/em> doesn’t really have a signature dish.\u00a0 If you click that link from 2011 and compare it to these pictures, there isn’t a single dish that has remained.\u00a0 Maybe one day Cancino will find a particular dish that he will become known for but for now, I’m happy to keep checking in each year to see what he comes up with as he matures and develops his craft.\u00a0 We’re lucky to have such a talented chef plying his trade in Brisbane.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
