{"id":1201,"date":"2009-09-29T09:58:01","date_gmt":"2009-09-28T23:58:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/?p=1201"},"modified":"2014-05-13T13:09:29","modified_gmt":"2014-05-13T03:09:29","slug":"5-second-review-halo-3-odst","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/?p=1201","title":{"rendered":"Halo 3: ODST"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/halo3odst1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14429\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/halo3odst1.jpg\" alt=\"halo3odst\" width=\"620\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/halo3odst1.jpg 620w, http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/halo3odst1-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Platform:\u00a0 <\/strong><em>Xbox 360<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Developer:\u00a0 <\/strong><em>Bungie<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Publisher:\u00a0 <\/strong><em>Microsoft Game Studios<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<span class=\"dropcap\">o<\/span>r otherwise known as <em>Halo 3: ODST: Firefly Reunion Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>ODST sees the Bungie team revisit the Halo universe without the &#8216;constraints&#8217; of having Master Chief as the central character.\u00a0 Instead, the player starts by controling the mute Rookie, a new ODST trooper who gets seperated from his platoon when they drop into the decimated ghost town New Mombasa which has been taken over by the Covenant.\u00a0 The story unfolds Pulp Fiction style, with a muddled up chronology and an ensemble cast voiced mostly by ex-Firefly cast members (Fillion, Tudyk and Baldwin).\u00a0 A mystery unfolds as to the nature of their secret mission in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Bungie look like they had a lot of fun with this concept, scrapping many of the signature Halo design motifs.\u00a0 To match the tone of the story, the epic summer blockbuster soundtrack has been shelved in favour of mellow jazz.\u00a0 The bright pastel colours of\u00a0 past Halo environments make way for dark ambient streets lit with neon lights.\u00a0 The biggest change of course, comes back to telling a story that doesn&#8217;t revolve around a superman who singlehandedly saves the universe.\u00a0 Instead, the ODST team are here to complete a single mission and count themselves lucky if they survive an escape from the city.<\/p>\n<p>By introducing a more vulnerable human element to this game, it changes the nature of the gameplay quite drastically.\u00a0 The player no longer has regenerating health, can&#8217;t jump as high and can&#8217;t run as fast.\u00a0 It changes the ebb and flow of the combat in the game from charging in with guns blazing to something more measured.\u00a0 The end result is not anything necessarily better or worse, its just different and thats a breath of fresh air for this series.<\/p>\n<p>Bundled in the box is a second disc with all of the existing downloadable <em>Halo 3<\/em> multiplayer maps as well as three new ones, bringing the total count to 24.\u00a0 This is a fantastic add-on as it comes close to unifying the selection of maps that frequent online Halo players have.<\/p>\n<p>ODST doesn&#8217;t completely turn the Halo franchise on its head but nor does it need to.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a fun 6-8 hour campaign here, a Firefight mode which is Bungie&#8217;s take on <em>Gears of War<\/em>&#8216;s Horde, and a good opportunity to breathe new life into the multiplayer community.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not <em>The Orange Box<\/em>, but there&#8217;s still a lot of value contained within these two discs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Platform:\u00a0 Xbox 360 Developer:\u00a0 Bungie Publisher:\u00a0 Microsoft Game Studios or otherwise known as Halo 3: ODST: Firefly Reunion Show.
