TFW readers with long(ish) memories might recall that at the start of the decade, I made some predictions for the next ten years covering a range of topics including politics, science, technology and for The FAT Website itself.\u00a0 You can read that full blog here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re over halfway through the decade\u00a0and its time for a check-in.\u00a0 As you\u2019ll see, I\u2019ve gotten a few more right.\u00a0 Other predictions\u2026not looking so good.<\/p>\n

The FAT Website<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 The FAT Website will have 3D visuals.<\/p>\n

PREDICTION TRACKER: Not so far<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Not even close. \u00a0This prediction was a terrible idea.\u00a0\":(\"<\/em><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 The FAT Website will still be running.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: On track<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Our sixteenth\u00a0year, baby.<\/em><\/p>\n

3. Four TFW bloggers will get married.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: On track.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Matt, Dan and Angela married. \u00a0Pat and Sam are engaged. \u00a0This prediction will become correct in June this year.<\/em><\/p>\n

Politics<\/strong><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Australia will have a female prime minister.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: CORRECT<\/em><\/span><\/strong> Julia Gillard stabbed her own party leader Kevin Rudd in the back and assumed the mantle of Prime Minister of Australia without an election.\u00a0 Good job!\u00a0 She has since been booted out in an act of Kevenge and then Rudd went on to get thrashed at the last election by Tony Abbott.\u00a0 Nice one Labor.<\/em><\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Australia won\u2019t legalize marriage equality.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER:\u00a0 Not so far.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 After Tony Abbott was ousted in favour of Malcolm Turnbull, marriage equality has a chance of happening now.<\/em><\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Australia will get a mandatory Internet censorship filter.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: Not so far<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em>\u00a0Kind of a poisoned chalice really. \u00a0We didn’t get an internet filter but instead we got mandatory metadata retention.<\/i><\/p>\n

7.\u00a0 Australia will get an R-18 video game rating.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER:\u00a0 CORRECT<\/span>\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong>Australia finally joined the 21st Century and there is an R-18 rating as of 2013.\u00a0 Although in practise<\/strong><\/a>, we still have plenty of stuff censored.\u00a0 Booo!<\/em><\/p>\n

8.\u00a0 Barack Obama to win a second term as American President.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER:\u00a0 CORRECT<\/span> In 2011<\/a><\/em><\/strong> I said Obama would \u201clikely be up against Romney and that he would beat him\u201d.\u00a0 I was right.\u00a0 Four more years!\u00a0 I feel like updating this one with the super safe additional prediction that Hillary Clinton will be the next president but I think everybody already knows that.<\/em><\/p>\n

8b. \u00a0***New prediction:\u00a0 Hillary Clinton will win the 2016 US Presidential Election***<\/em><\/p>\n

PREDICTION TRACKER:\u00a0 Who the hell knows<\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>2016 is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable American elections in recent memory<\/em>. \u00a0Hillary Clinton should’ve been the safe bet but Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump are unpredictable wild cards.<\/em><\/p>\n

9.\u00a0 Labor Party will be in power in the UK in 2020.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER:\u00a0 INCORRECT<\/span>.<\/span> \u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Despite polling suggesting a close election in 2015, the phenomenon known as ‘shy Tories’ (basically people who are too ashamed to admit they are conservative) saw the Conservatives sweep back into power<\/em>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Health & Science<\/strong><\/p>\n

10.\u00a0 Scientists will successfully clone a human being.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: Not so far.<\/em><\/strong> I don\u2019t know what crackpot science fiction movie I was watching when I wrote this but I\u2019m 99% sure there isn\u2019t a remote chance of this happening.<\/em><\/p>\n

11.\u00a0 We will still be globally dependent on fossil fuels by 2020.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: On track.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 A pretty safe bet to make in retrospect. \u00a0Although the needle is gradually moving towards renewable energy. \u00a0Europe and America both making strides on this one. \u00a0Australia on the other hand is going all in on fossil fuels. \u00a0Thanks Liberals!<\/em><\/p>\n

12.\u00a0 Scientists will develop a vaccine for HIV.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: Not so far.<\/em><\/strong> Although every month Reddit claims there is some amazing new clinical trial that will change everything.<\/em><\/p>\n

Sports<\/strong><\/p>\n

13.\u00a0 A team other than Chelsea, Manchester United or Arsenal will win the English Premiere League.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: CORRECT<\/em><\/span><\/strong> Not only was I correct with Man City winning the title, but\u00a0its January and Leicester City is top of the table. \u00a0What on Earth 0_o<\/em><\/p>\n

\"bolt\"<\/a><\/p>\n

14.\u00a0 A man will run 100 metres in under 9.5 seconds.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: Not so far.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 I think Bolt is winding down nowadays so this is looking like a bit of a long shot. \u00a0Still, there’s an Olympics on this year so the stage is set.<\/em><\/p>\n

15.\u00a0 Scotland will qualify for a World Cup.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: INCORRECT.<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0Scotland failed to qualify\u00a0\":(\"<\/em><\/p>\n

Media & Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n

16.\u00a0 3D Televisions will become the standard.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: INCORRECT.<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Pretty happy to lock this one in as incorrect. \u00a03DTV is on life support.<\/em><\/p>\n

17.\u00a0 Most people will download movies instead of purchasing them in a store.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: CORRECT.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0Thanks to the popularity of On Demand services like Netflix and Hulu, this came true.<\/em><\/p>\n

18.\u00a0 The Audio CD will cease production this decade.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: Not so far.<\/em><\/strong> My local JB HiFi still has a CD section and its still surprisingly large 0_o<\/em><\/p>\n

19.\u00a0 Someone will make a film that costs half a billion dollars to produce ($US).
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: Not So Far.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0It still hasn’t happened. \u00a0I thought for sure Star Wars or Avatar would accomplish this and yet…it still hasn’t happened.<\/em><\/p>\n

20.\u00a0 Facebook will still be the most popular social networking site by 2020.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: On track.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Looks pretty good.<\/em><\/p>\n
