{"id":21453,"date":"2017-05-25T12:19:40","date_gmt":"2017-05-25T02:19:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/?p=21453"},"modified":"2018-02-25T12:42:50","modified_gmt":"2018-02-25T02:42:50","slug":"get-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/?p=21453","title":{"rendered":"Get Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/?attachment_id=21454\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-21454\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21454\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/getoutposter.jpg\" alt=\"getoutposter\" width=\"500\" height=\"702\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/getoutposter.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/getoutposter-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Director:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Jordan Peele<br \/>\n<strong>Writer:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Jordan Peele<br \/>\n<strong>Cast:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Catherine Keener, Bradley Whitford<\/p>\n<p>Jordan Peele hit it big with his debut feature film\u00a0<em>Get Out<\/em>\u00a0which is one of the best reviewed films of 2017 as well as being a huge hit at the box office, clearing a cool $245 million on a budget of just $4 million.<\/p>\n<p><em>Get Out<\/em>\u00a0is an entertaining satirical thriller that draws its best moments from subverting audience expectations.\u00a0 It is simultaneously the scariest and funniest film I have seen this year.\u00a0\u00a0<em>Get Out<\/em>\u00a0starts out as a modern day\u00a0<em>Guess Who\u2019s Coming To Dinner<\/em>\u00a0as Caucasian Rose Armitage brings her black boyfriend Chris home to meet her parents in their WASPy neighbourhood.\u00a0 But Chris quickly works out something is very wrong in the Armitage household and\u2026well, the less you know going into the film, the better really.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/?attachment_id=21455\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-21455\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21455\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/getout.jpg\" alt=\"getout\" width=\"620\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/getout.jpg 620w, http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/getout-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Get Out<\/em>\u00a0is a film that\u00a0<em>really<\/em>\u00a0goes there.\u00a0 It is an incredibly timely film, arriving in theatres mere months after the 2016 Presidential election and it has some sharp commentary on race relations, crime in America, and the attitudes of politically correct \u2018West Wing\u2019 liberals towards black people (which is mined effectively for many of the gags).\u00a0 It is a film where the viewing experience is absolutely enhanced when watched in a packed cinema screening.\u00a0 Hearing an audience\u00a0reacting so audibly\u00a0to the twists and turns of\u00a0<em>Get Out<\/em>\u00a0(\u2018where are the keys Rose\u2019, the cop car pulling up at the end) has been hands down my favourite movie-watching experience of 2017 so far.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan Peele deserves all the credit in the world for laying the groundwork for this memorable film with his screenplay and direction but he is also ably supported in his leading man\u00a0who executes the concept to maximum effect.\u00a0 This is the first role I&#8217;ve seen of Daniel Kaluuya and he is an absolute star.\u00a0 His portrayal of Chris Washington is careful and measured for the first half of the film as he appears impassive and poker-faced but the audience understands that internally he is juggling his thoughts between &#8216;<em>play it cool in front of Rose&#8217;s parents Chris<\/em>&#8216; and &#8216;<em>what the fuck is going on here<\/em>&#8216;.\u00a0 He sells that expression on his face beautifully.\u00a0 If he over-eggs it, then\u00a0<em>Get Out<\/em> doesn&#8217;t work nearly as well.\u00a0 It&#8217;s because of how effective Kaaluya is that the film is a satirical horror and not a black comedy.<\/p>\n<p>On the flipside, LilRel Howery is hilarious as Chris&#8217;
