{"id":2423,"date":"2010-07-03T22:32:54","date_gmt":"2010-07-03T12:32:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/?p=2423"},"modified":"2014-05-13T13:00:59","modified_gmt":"2014-05-13T03:00:59","slug":"ipad-app-of-the-week-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/?p=2423","title":{"rendered":"Mirror&#8217;s Edge"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_2424\" style=\"width: 624px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mirrorsedgeipad.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2424\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2424 \" title=\"mirrorsedgeipad\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mirrorsedgeipad.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mirrorsedgeipad.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.thefatwebsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mirrorsedgeipad-300x225.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2424\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Life as a postie in the near future is hard work<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Platform:\u00a0 <\/strong><em>iPhone<\/em><strong><br \/>\n<strong>Developer:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/strong><em>EA DICE<\/em><strong><br \/>\n<strong>Publisher:\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><em> Electronic Arts<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to a recent clearance sale of iTunes vouchers at Coles, I got around to buying my first actual game on the iPad recently, <strong><em>Mirrors Edge<\/em><\/strong> by EA.<\/p>\n<p>For the uninitiated, <em>Mirrors Edge<\/em> is a game in which you play a courier in a dystopian future which is ruled by a tyrant.\u00a0 To subvert this tyrant and their regime (okay so I didn&#8217;t really pay attention to anyone&#8217;s names, sue me) your character must traverse urban landscapes to deliver some messages to, uh, some other guys.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, so the storyline is not the hook here.\u00a0 What does make the game a very entertaining diversion is the play mechanics.\u00a0 By making simple swiping gestures across the screen, your character leaps, bounds, dives and barrel rolls through some city landscapes and its all been designed in such a way that you should be able to do this in a fluid motion with few pauses required for changing direction.\u00a0 What this means is that with a little bit of practise, you can complete levels in what is sort of comparable to a single &#8216;take&#8217; in an action movie.\u00a0 The challenge here isn&#8217;t really in making to the end of the stage, its more about doing so without tumbling into an obstacle or halting your momentum.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s six different environments each with about three different levels within them.\u00a0 So you can more or less complete everything in about half an hour.\u00a0 The idea is that you should come back to perform speed runs, trying to beat your previous fastest time.\u00a0 There&#8217;s also a secondary challenge where you have to find a bunch of hidden handbags within each stage (really) but thats about as fun as it sounds.<\/p>\n<p>All in all, I had a pretty good time with <em>Mirrors Edge<\/em>.\u00a0 I like the graphics plus the levels are well designed and fun to sprint through.\u00a0 For one of the first available iPad games, I think thats a pretty reasonable effort.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Platform:\u00a0 iPhone Developer:\u00a0 EA DICE Publisher:\u00a0 Electronic Arts Thanks to a recent clearance sale of iTunes vouchers at Coles, I got around to buying my first actual game on the iPad recently, Mirrors Edge by EA.
