TFW readers with long(ish) memories might recall that at the start of the decade, I made some predictions for the next ten years covering a range of topics including politics, science, technology and for The FAT Website itself.\u00a0 You can read that full blog here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re 3\/10th of the way to 2020 and its time for a check-in.\u00a0 As you’ll see, I’ve gotten a few more right.\u00a0 Other predictions…not looking so good.<\/p>\n

The FAT Website<\/strong><\/h1>\n

1.\u00a0 The FAT Website will have 3D visuals.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: <\/strong>Not so far<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0 Not even close.\u00a0 And with the entertainment industry seemingly less focussed on 3DTV and looking forward to 4k resolution instead, this isn’t looking good right now.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 The FAT Website will still be running.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: <\/strong>On track<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0 Our thirteenth year, baby.<\/em><\/p>\n

3. Four TFW bloggers will get married.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: <\/strong>Not so far.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 Yeah…no one looks like they’re in any great hurry to join the club.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

Politics<\/strong><\/h1>\n

4.\u00a0 Australia will have a female prime minister.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: CORRECT<\/em><\/span><\/strong> Julia Gillard stabbed her own party leader Kevin Rudd in the back and assumed the mantle of Prime Minister of Australia without an election.\u00a0 Good job!<\/em><\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 Australia won\u2019t legalize gay marriage.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER:\u00a0 Not so far.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Last year it looked like the country was heading towards legalized gay marriage but 2013 saw Liberals reclaim Queensland and the political discourse on a federal level was mostly about Tony Abbott’s hilariously inaccurate carbon tax predictions.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 Australia will get a mandatory Internet censorship filter.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: <\/strong>Not so far<\/strong>.<\/em><\/span> In November of 2012, Information Minister Stephen Conroy’s mandatory Internet filter was defeated<\/a>.\u00a0 Happy to be wrong on this one.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

7.\u00a0 Australia will get an R-18 video game rating.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER:\u00a0 CORRECT\u00a0 <\/em><\/span><\/strong>Australia finally joined the 21st Century and as of 3 days ago<\/a>, there is now an R-18 rating.\u00a0 Woohoo!<\/em>
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

8.\u00a0 Barack Obama to win a second term as American President.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER:\u00a0 CORRECT <\/em><\/span><\/strong>Last year<\/a> I said Obama would “likely be up against Romney and that he would beat him”.\u00a0 I was right.\u00a0 Four more years!
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

9.\u00a0 Labor Party will be in power in the UK in 2020.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER:\u00a0 Not so far.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>Having said that, last year David Cameron and the Tories were doing okay in opinion polls.\u00a0 Nowadays, they slightly favour<\/a> Ed Miliband and Labour.<\/em><\/p>\n

Health & Science
\n<\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n

10.\u00a0 Scientists will successfully clone a human being.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: Not so far.<\/em><\/span><\/strong> I don\u2019t know what crackpot science fiction movie I was watching when I wrote this but I\u2019m 99% sure there isn\u2019t a remote chance of this happening.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/em>\"\"<\/a><\/em>\"\"<\/a><\/em>\"\"<\/a><\/em>\"\"<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

11.\u00a0 We will still be globally dependant on fossil fuels by 2020.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: On track.<\/em><\/span><\/strong> Not that I expected this to change in a year but so far it looks to be a pretty safe bet.<\/em><\/p>\n

12.\u00a0 Scientists will develop a vaccine for HIV.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: Not so far.<\/em><\/span><\/strong> America\u2019s recent economic woes set back this prediction significantly as they were the country most likely to make progress towards this milestone.<\/em><\/p>\n

Sports
\n<\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n

13.\u00a0 A team other than Chelsea, Manchester United or Arsenal will win the English Premiere League.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: CORRECT<\/em><\/span><\/strong> Manchester City won the EPL in dramatic fashion on the last day of the competition coming from a goal down in injury time to hold off Manchester United.\u00a0 They are now the fifth team to win the EPL since its inception.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

\n<\/em><\/p>\n

14.\u00a0 A man will run 100 metres in under 9.5 seconds.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: Not so far.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Although Usain Bolt won gold at the Olympics, he didn’t trouble his own World Record time.<\/em><\/p>\n

15.\u00a0 Scotland will qualify for a World Cup.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: Not so far.<\/em><\/span><\/strong> This is about as likely as my human cloning prediction coming true.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

Media & Technology
\n<\/strong><\/h1>\n

16.\u00a0 3D Televisions will become the standard.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: Not so far.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 3DTV made very little headway in 2012 and thanks to the 48fps technology used in The Hobbit, current BluRay players aren’t capable of replicating the experience in home entertainment units.\u00a0 Not looking good.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

17.\u00a0 Most people will download movies instead of purchasing them in a store.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: On track.<\/em><\/span><\/strong> The rise in popularity of Netflix and AppleTV etc. suggests this should come true fairly soon.\u00a0 Blockbuster Video is all but dead in Australia.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

18.\u00a0 The Audio CD will cease production this decade.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: Not so far.<\/em><\/span><\/strong> I might have got this one wrong actually because the death of the audio CD suggests the complete absense of music in a physical retail presence.<\/em><\/p>\n

19.\u00a0 Someone will make a film that costs half a billion dollars to produce ($US).
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: On track.<\/em><\/span><\/strong> John Carter cost $300 million to produce but its shitty performance at the box office might make studios a bit reluctant to drop this kind of money in the next couple of years.\u00a0 I think my prediction will ultimately be proven correct by the next installment of Star Wars.
\n<\/em><\/p>\n

20.\u00a0 Facebook will still be the most popular social networking site by 2020.
\nPREDICTION TRACKER: On track.<\/em><\/span><\/strong> Lol, Myspace Revival.<\/em><\/p>\n
