75% of Queensland flooded, declared disaster zone. Welcome to the Sunshine State!

“Never have I seen such horrible weather.  Here’s to 2011 being an improvement.  I can’t see how it could be any worse.”
– Me, when I blogged 11 days ago.

These are some pictures from Queensland in the past 24 hours which has been hit with severe flooding across 75% of its populated areas.  The whole city came to a standstill.  I got sent home from work by midday.  Transport became gridlocked, supermarkets have been emptied of supplies and I don’t think we’ll be up and running again for a few days yet.

So far the toll is ten people dead and seventy eight missing 🙁

The crazy part is that they think they worse is yet to come.  More specifically, the flooding is expected to reach its peak on Thursday.
