Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

Trip, Monkey and Pigsy chillin' on their Wasteland Vacation

I finished Red Dead Redemption over the weekend and have moved onto a new game to play.  It’s called Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and its a post-apocalyptic adaption of the classic Chinese literature story of Monkey.

Although its not a particularly high profile game, the game has an strong pedigree behind its production.  The script and direction was handled by Alex Garland (The Beach, 28 Days Later) and Monkey is voiced by Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings).  Their influence is immediately noticable.  The writing and characterisation is uncommonly good for a video game.  The characters are likeable, the voice acting is excellent and its one of the most interesting storylines I’ve played through in a video game.

I’m only in the very early stages of the game at the moment but I’m really digging it.  If you’ve got nothing else to play at the moment, I’d suggest giving it a try.  It’s available on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.  It’s certainly a great game for wish fulfillment.  Who hasn’t daydreamed of being a half-man, half-monkey hybrid roaming around on whacky adventures with a hot redhead and a manpig?

  1. i totally want to play this game. it better be in the office when i go pick up games today.

  2. I just finished this game yesterday afternoon; although with one caveat; first time getting thru the end part, the game froze as I made the final button press. ARGH. Was so annoyed had to leave it for half a day before trying the final part again :P. Still not really sure what to make of the entire game as a whole, but was fairly entertaining :).
