Back In The Habit

I don’t really have anything to say with this post. I’m just trying to get back in to the habit of updating regularly.

I can’t really remember exactly what I’ve done for the first two weeks of the year. I worked a few days. Hung out with Mike and Matt before they left. Had my first ever Empire party, a leaving party for Matt, which was awesome. I think we went to the beach a lot too.

Only saw Angela once the whole time she was here. I was slack.

I happen to know Dan had to stay up for 24 hours as a psychology experiment so hopefully we’ll get an update soon letting us know how that went.

I can’t really write about what I’ve done so I’ll just rant about movies instead.

I’ve been buying a lot of DVDs with the money I’m making from work (and saving absolutely none of it). It got me thinking about some friends of mine. I’m sure most of you have friends who have an absolutely terrible taste in movies. I know a girl in Perth who has The Animal, 2 Fast 2 Furious and 10 Things I Hate About You on DVD. That would be fine in itself (well, not really) but she has the nerve to bash other people’s taste. This girl was saying how much of an Adam Sandler fan she was and I said I liked Punch Drunk Love. So she says ‘That was crap. I mean his funny stuff like Little Nicky and Mr Deeds’.

Little Nicky maybe but Mr Fucking Deeds?!?!

Happily Sandler seems to have stopped his insanely formulaic movies and Rob Schneider seems to be totally out of comission.

Lets look at movies coming out this year:

Spider-man 2
I finally saw the trailer and man does it look sweet. I loved the first one and think that Maguire and Dunst are both excellent (I know their casting bugs some of the SpyMag staff). Alfred Molina will kick ass as Doc Oc too. He beat out Robert Washed Up Suckbag DeNiro for the role too. DeNiro made the sequel to Meet the Parents instead. [Nelson Laugh]Ha ha!

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Due out in June. This is most people’s favourite Potter book and its one of the darkest ones so hopefully it will be just as good on screen. They switched directors from the guy who made Baby’s Day Out to the guy who made The Devil’s Backbone. Good choice says I.

Troy
I don’t really know much about this except for seeing the trailer which had lots of ships in it and it looked really epic and stuff. Brad Pitt is in it and he’s a pretty major dude. So is Orlando Bloom but if he plays the exact same plucky Legolas/Will Turner character I’d say this might be the film that exposes him for his limited acting skills.

Shrek 2
Opens on May 2nd, the same day as Troy. I will end up seeing both. But I’ll probably have to watch this first since I know most of my friends will and I don’t want to get left out the dinner table conversation.

The Incredibles
Out in November. A superhero movie by Pixar with Samuel L. Jackson and Jason Lee. Mike’s probably getting hot under the collar right about now.

Hell Boy
More comic book goodness. This one is a Pg13 film starring Ron Pearlman as a dude with corks sticking out of his head. Out in April. I’m not too fussed about this one.

The Punisher
One of my picks for the WORST FILM OF THE YEAR. This one has John Travolta and motherfucking Kevin ‘Supershredder’ Nash in it. I’ll be first in line to see it. I mean a combo of Grease and comic book movies and wrestlers trying to act. I expect nothing less than an absolute travesty.

Catwoman
I changed my mind. Maybe this will be the worst film of the year. Better still, it might finally kill Halle Berry’s career. Yey!

Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights
Ah, a sequel to Dirty Dancing out in February. With Patrick Swayze. Should be interesting.

Scooby Doo 2
Out in March. I liked the first one and this one has Seth Green in it. So I will watch. Oh, and Alicia Silverstone too. Might I add that Linda Cardelini is hot. Do you know Freaks and Geeks is coming out on DVD? Good eh.

Kill Bill 2
DELAYED TILL SMELLLLY APRIL. This is my pick for best second half of a film of the year.

Alien vs. Predator
Out in August. Cool idea but its directed by the Resident Evil guy and the lead actor is Raoul Bova. Who?

Son of Mask
Will probably have that crusty guy from Dumb and Dumberer in it. I wonder if they are planning to do all of Jim Carey’s films like this. Son of Ace Ventura next? [vomits]

Jersey Girl
March release. This things keeps getting pushed back and back and the more I hear the more I worry for Kevin Smith’s Pg rated film with Affleck and J’Lo. Hopefully it’s good. If it ever comes out that is.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Charlie Kaufman’s new film comes out in March. If you’ve seen Adaptation and Being John Malkovich thats all the motivation you need. If you’ve seen Animal Instincts you know Kaufman can make some shit films too. But this one has Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood and Jim Carrey. Up to you whether that is a good or a bad thing.

The Brothers Grimm
From Terry Gilliam. It has Monica Belluci and Mackenzie ‘Gareth From The Office’ Crook in it. The leads are Heath Ledger and Matt Damon though.

King Arthur
Out in July. This is the next Kiera Knightley film. Thats all you need to know.

The Day After Tomorrow
The trailer for this epic Armageddon style epic looks awesome so thats good. Its directed by the guy who did Godzilla which is not so good. But the lead actor is Jake Gyllenhaal so thats good.

Starsky and Hutch
I don’t like tv show movie remakes much but look at this cast: Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Snoop Dogg, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell. Thats Oscar material.

Shark Tale
Dreamwork’s animated underwater movie might be seen as a Finding Nemo rip off. But it has Will Smith, Renee Zellweger, Angelina Jolie, Jack Black, Robert DeNiro and Martin Scorsese. Thats quite a lot of big names.

Garfield
I changed my mind. This will be the worst film of the year.

Around the World in 80 Days
My dream come true. Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Broadbent (Ziddler from Moulin Rouge) and Kathy Bates in the same film! Out in July.

50 First Dates
Ah, fuck. Starring Rob Schneider and Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. THIS will be the worst film of the year.

Okay, I’m done ranting about movies now.

my opinions:

Spidy 2 – awesomeness. *pumps fist*

Harry – darker harry potter, 10times better than the first 2. (even though i like the 2nd one)… just for the record my fav book is “goblet of fire”. WOO!

Incredibles – been waiting for this one for ages… i saw the sneak trailer in May. looks brillient.

Jersey Girl – J-lo? Hell no! whats the deal? is it in afleck’s contract that every movie he now makes has to star Jenny “i was raised in a middle class family that always had enough food to go around, but now i lie about it to make records” Lopez? ass. Kevin Smith is still awesome though.

King Arthur – My girlfriend Kiera’s new movie. i will marry her on the set.

Starsky and Hutch – Ben Stiller, Owen “so hot right now” Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Will “everything he touches is gold” Ferrell. i didnt like the TV show either.

Garfield – saw the trailer with edo… absolutly terrible.

That is my 3 1/2 cents. Happy movie watching.
